I’m using markers in the timeline. To go from one to the next, I can hit ctrl-; or ctrl-‘

If my playhead isn’t on a marker, this works fine. If my playhead is on a marker – like when I’m jumping from marker to marker – I need to hit the ctrl-; 3-4 times to get it to move. Anyone else experiencing this?

One thing I noticed is that the timeline remembers the last marker you were on. So if you were on positioned on a marker, but moved the playhead to another marker, you have to press ctrl-; twice. Once to get it to see the current marker you are on and then one more time to move it. Also, if a clip is selected, it doesn’t see the marker as selected. So you have to press ctrl-; twice in that scenario as well.

Another idea – open the timeline index and see if there might be some additional markers +/- 1 frame to where you are. Sometimes they overlap and look like 1 marker.

I don’t use the timeline index much but I must be missing something because I don’t see any markers in there. I’m confident there is only one marker at each point because I deleted them and put one back.

The problem persists even when jumping from marker to marker and back again. Even if I haven’t touched the mouse or played any video, it still takes at least 3-4 keystrokes to make it jump. This only happens when I’m already on a marker. No background tasks are running.

Just curious – Have you updated to 10.0.7? If so, same thing occurring?

I just updated to 10.0.7, still getting the same issue in the same project.

How about if you copy/paste into a new project?

I have seen the issue in every single project until now. I had upgraded to 10.0.7 just before I saw this thread, and added markers to project / timeline that didn’t have any markers. FCPX now acts like it should, instead of stopping on individual markers. I have not tried navigating with older markers. (pre 10.0.07)

It’s also working correctly for me now in new projects, and sort of for new markers added into old projects. Good enough for me.

[Loren Risker] “I don’t use the timeline index much but I must be missing something because I don’t see any markers in there. “

At the bottom of the timeline index are icons by which to limit what the index shows you. You should see a marker icon. If you click it, you’ll only see the markers in your timeline. Then you can just use the up and down arrow keys to jump from marker to marker. It’s a very nice way to jump around.

Also, there is a TO DO marker that you can use and then mark it as done when you finish what you’re doing at that marker. I do this all the time in my projects. In fact, I wish it were easier to create TO DO markers to begin with because they’re damn useful.
