I am looking to purchase an external drive for my MacBook Pro. I edit with Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro 6. I’ve read Walter Bascardi’s 2003 review of the G-tech g-raid and was convinced that was the drive I was going to get. The technical assistant at the retail store that I went to suggested that I buy a glyph.
So, G-tech vs. Glyph.. any opinions?

I recommend the CalDigit Firewire VR. I used to like the G-Raids, but the new ones have issues, like not being able to daisy chain them without performance loss (they go from 65MB/s down to 16MB/s when two or more are connected to the same machine). The Caldigit drive doesn’t do that.

And I don’t know of anyone using GLYPH as media drives.

How about G-Tech vs Glyph vs Dulce?

The Dulce PRO-Duo FireWire will support 2 streams @ 10 bit SD vs 1 stream for the G-Tech G-Raid2, 3 streams of 8 bit SD vs 2 streams for the G-Tech, 4 streams of DVCPro-HD vs 3 streams for the G-Tech, 6 streams of HDV vs 4 streams for the G-Tech and 10 streams of DV25 vs 7 streams for the G-Tech. I don’t see any published data for the supported video stream counts of the Glyph GT062 which is the comparable product to the G-raid2.

Was not happy with the adapter as well as the thickness of the Gtech drives…changed over to thinner Glyoh GT062 1T with two 500Gig inside set up as RAID0..running at 7200RPM…have been using them with FCP project with two track VIDEO HD 24P advanced and up to 8 trks of 48K sound…longest SEq so far 32 min…had no problems…anyone else use these Glyphs???
