    Hello,
Ive been trying to find a way to create a glowing trail with transparency, similar to a radar sweep. But I want to move it horizontally across the screen.

    Any suggestions?

    preferably wihtout additional plugin costs?

    Thank you!

New Solid with Render > Ramp (Linear Ramp-default), rotate that 90 degrees. Animate the move of the Linear Ramp layer, Position it off screen Right, set keyframe, move down the timeline, position it off screen Left, there should be two keyframes.

Make a new Green (or whatever color you want the “Radar Sweep” to be). 0,255,0 make that nice fluorescent green radar look. Drag it Below the Linear Ramp Layer. Set Mode to Add, and make it a Luma Track Matte.

You can adjust the look of the “Radar Trail” by changing the Start Ramp and End Ramp values (top Layer), Ramp Scatter, and Blend with original.

    Is that what you want?

Oh, yeah, this too was a hack (isn’t everthing?), this time from Rick Gerard for a standard circular radar( comes with aep):
