Hi, I need to make growing lines that glow, sort of like fiber optic cables.

One way that I was attempting this is to (1) make a new solid layer, (2) use the pen tool to create a masked path, (3) then use Effect > Generate > Stroke (“On Transparent” paint style, keyframes for “End”).

But when I try to add the Glow Effect after this, my stroke doesn’t glow (no matter how I change the intensity or other variables). Does anyone know why, and what I can do to make them glow?

[I have tried Dean Velez’s growing stroke part of his Web of Deceit tutorial, but I was going for a different look and also wanted to avoid using the Echo effect for now.]

Also, if there’s another way to do this besides a path mask, I’d love to hear.

Thanks in advance for your help!

the way you described works for me… although it is rather subtle with the initial glow settings. are there any other settings, effects or maybe blending modes that you are using?

Okay, I’m an idiot. I tried it again and it’s glowing now. I’m not sure what I did wrong the first time, but thank you for responding.

Now I just have to figure out how to make it grow thicker as bends toward the camera and thinner as it bends away, without using Trapcode 3D Stroke…
