i making insert screenshots, will animate the graphical interface in AE. was thinking C4d might be able to help make for some cool glossy reflections. we wont see the device edges, just the screen shot, with the specular shine moving across the screen.

any tips for using hdr/lighting set-ups to provide some nice simple product lighting that would move across the surface of a slightly moving object with the animation applied to it.

i was hoping for this to look like a new ipod or something.

    any thoughts

Easily possible in C4D, although a bit overkill in my opinion. In C4D I would just stick a reflective glass layer over your screenshot, just like iPods etc have. As the camera moves the glass will reflect the surroundings which you can texture onto a global sphere. Either use the lighting off HDRI or fake it with some point/area lights to give the specs.

In AE you can do the same thing on a slightly lower-tech level. Just stick another layer over the top holding your environment, add another layer for speculars which you can create with the Ramp or circle effect, and then it’s just a matter of blend modes and animating the layers position in a fashion that would mimic real life. This means you could do it all in AE but would require cheating. C4D would give you free realism as it does all the calculations for you.

    Good luck.

just thought, i could do a few moves with no underlying animation, export the camera move, and composite away in AE. i am kind of afraid of transparent textures in c4d after having a slightly bad experience with bad aliasing of an object that was under the surface of a place with a procedural water texture applied to it.

    anyone had that?
