    Hello,

I’m working with the Panasonic AGDVX100A on the second in a series of Civil War documentaries on the Kansas/Missouri Border wars in association with PBS. For this upcoming film we will be shooting a team of professional horse riders riding into a town to attack.

I’m interested in shooting this scene with two Panasonic cameras from moving trucks, (similar to how they shot the Buffalo hunt scenes in Dances With Wolves, minus the 35mm cameras) but I’m afraid the image will be too shaky. It might have a nice, effect on a couple of shots, but I was considering the use of some steadicam systems.

I searched past posts and found that Glidecam V-8 and Glidecam 4000 seemed the most popular. However most posts were discussing walking or running with the camera, rather than riding in the back of a truck. Does anyone have any suggestions on particular systems or ways of smoothing out the motion on this shot with the Panasonic AGDVX100A? I’d love to shoot with a higher-end camera, but the budget is going into our sets and reenactors. This is the best we can do. Hey, it’s PBS. Still, I was very impressed with the camera on our first film.

    Thanks

Steadicam works well riding in the back of a truck.

    Nathan,
Owning a steadicam i am bais toward stadicams. As far as type of steadicam they have about 4 different virson of steadicams made for dv camera and i have pulled off a shot on dv with my bigger master series steadicam. In short you can pull off walking and riding (even on a atv) shots no problem and can switch between the to quickly enough. Hoped that helps

    Take care,

Maybe too late for this thread, but….. my soundperson is also a shooter for our state’s PBS affiliate and uses the Glidecam with their PD-150. She’s used it while skiing backwards and while strapped in the back of a jeep to shoot a bicycle race. It looks great.
