What is the consensus on purchasing Canon brand spare battery packs vs. third-party brands?

I want to get a BP-945, but $100 is asking a bit much… Does anyone have experience with a cheaper, good quality alternative?

    BML,
I have two BP-945 batteries and I’m very happy with them. One will last all day, but it’s nice to have a spare just in case.

Thanks for the response, but are your batteries official Canon brand or from a different third-party compnay?

    Hi BML,

I bought them from Canon and I use them on my Canon GL2.

    Hi bml,

I use a BP-945 (genuine Canon) and also 2 generic branded batteries. They are marked as BP-941 (ass in China, made in Japan) and are 5500mAh which is larger than the BP-945. I have had no problems whatsoever with them.

Let me know if you have any more questions

Great, thanks a lot… I actually just went ahead and purchased a no-name BP-941 yesterday.

    BML,

What’s the price difference between the BP-945 and the BP-941 battery?

Mine cost A$100 which is about US$74. Probably cheaper in the states I’d say.

here in Denver FilmVideo stocks dozens of batteries for rental units. They are also a canon&sony service center and make their own (excellent) battery belts. Their techs insist that the no-name brands don’t meet oem specs and the canon & sony are better value over the long haul. My own(more limited) experience supports that view.
