Giant clip, workflow
I recently had some Super 8 film from the 70’s transferred to 1080 proress 422. There were many 3 minute reels and some longer ones transferred, they came back at a 50 minute long single .mov file 60 GB long. Does it make sense to import it into FCPX as a giant clip then somehow cut it into more manageable segments, or should I chop it up first with Quicktime or something else.
Typically thing I edit have a natural clip structure generated by starting and stopping the camera, but this seems like a different beast.
Suggestions for a good workflow?

I would use FCPX’s superior range logging abilities and leave the clip whole.

Agreed. I am working on a gig where we are taking an hour and twenty minute doc and seeing if we can cut it down to under an hour. I took the entire thing in and then created keyword collections for various scenes and locations. As I cut things out, I create Compound Clips of the deleted sections in case the director wants them back in or moved to another section (hindsight; I could have just created a KC of deleted section as well). But the orignal file is still “whole”.
