February 22, 2018 at 1:17 pmok, then, so…I, sir, am a traditionalist!!! ????
Seriously, those other guys know me, I’m just a retired half blind amateur who does this for fun. I don’t have to worry about delivery formats or clients. If I still have your attention, or anybody elses, could you tell me how to get rid of the “soap opera effect” if I shoot in 30p? I know there’s a “blur” effect in Resolve that I just thought of. I’ll try it later. Is that what it’s for? If not, again, how do I tone down that “live” look in 30p?

GeForce GTX 1050ti

By shooting in 1/60 shutter speed. Aka. the 180 degree shutter angle “rule”. You get some motion blur in so the footage won’t look as “fake”.

February 22, 2018 at 2:28 pmObviously, Tero, you’ve fallen behind the times ???? There’s a new temporary fix to the GH5’s atrocious auto focus. By shooting in 30p and setting the shutter angle to 179d rather than 180d the autofocus improves by almost 100%. But before that I always shot in 180d anyway.
Now, since you’re awake over there on your side of the planet, can I use the blur effect in Resolve to get a bit closer to 24p quality blur? I just tried it, but I only added 1.2. It looks ok but it just might be my eyes deceiving me. Any tips?

February 22, 2018 at 3:19 pmWhat you need is motion blur and adding that can be time consuming and/or costly depending on the plugin. We use RE:Vision’s Reelsmart.

February 22, 2018 at 10:47 pmYou know, Tero, I am truly shocked. You didn’t recommend reading the manual! While it’s not really helpful as far as how much blur to add, it does mention that motion blur is used to add blur when you’ve shot something in 30p and need to add some motion blur. One tutorial added 70 steps which I thought was harsh. I’ll stick with the 2.6 setting for now. It seems to give me a pleasant effect, again, assuming my eyes are not playing tricks on me.
