  • Getting my audition tape to look more like film

    Hello experts!
I recently did an audition self-tape using my Panasonic HDC-TM700 set to 1080i and although I find the footage very crisp and clear, it still has that camcorder look/feel… whereas last year I recorded an audition tape as a video facility for actors and there was this wonderful texture to the footage that made it seem like “film”. Is there a setting I could look for on my camcorder that would make it look more like that or is my only option to create the effect in post? (ie. Premiere Pro CC?)

    Looking forward to your guidance…
    Thanks!

    Shoot 30p or 24p.https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/54/860847

Search Creative Cow for: film look

Usually, shallow focus instead of deep focus.

I agree with Rick. Choose to shoot progressive and with as shallow DOF as possible. If you want even more film look you could add some third party Grain in post.

    Kind Regards,

My camera shoots 1080/60p 1080/60i, or “fake” 24p (Digital Cinema mode). From my research, it looks like I should shoot 60p and then work on a 24p timeline in Premiere to achieve this. This will also allow for smooth slow motion effects. I was using 1080i but I’ll start shooting 1080p instead.

Besides those technical effects, a lot of a “filmic” look has to do with proper lighting as well.
