Getting Money back from a Carnet- how long does it take?
We are going international as I have been doing reserach on taking production equipment out of the US.
The question that no one seems to be able to answer is- once one returns the Carnet papers having taken out a bond for the equipment, when will I get the money back?
Our equipment is $30k which equals a $12k bond (40%). Alot of money to part with!

You should be able to contact a bonding agent that that chages a fee for the bond. Like Insurance.
You then don’t have to put up the whole bond amount. You get nothing back but costs much less.
Carnet bonds are normally held for several months past your return date.KB

Explaind here. A Surety Bond relaces the cash. Ceck with your insurance agent to see if they provide them.

I actually meant to say surety bond- sorry for the confusion.
atacarnet.com has been very helpful and is my main source for info. It’s just that they don’t mention when you get the money back.
It sounds like a couple of months from your experience.
We will definitely be registering our gear with customs- probably more important than the Carnet!
