  • Getting Focus FSH-200 Quicktimes (captured from a Sony Z1U) to play after Mac OS X 10.6.8 Security Update 2011-005 or 2011-006

Hello everyone, I have a problem and wanted to see if someone here could help out:

I own a couple of FSH 200 recorders which I have used to capture HDV footage from a two Sony Z1U’s. The recorder’s current system version’s are V.1.0.0.08052909. I uses this HDV footage in Final Cut Pro 7 for a documentary I am editing. I am editing on a Mac Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8. I noticed on other computers I own, which also have 10.6.8, that when I downloaded the latest software update for them, Security Update 2012-001, all the .mov files I captured with my FSH-200 became unreadable by those computers. This has put me in a difficult position since all the .mov’s I have captured over the years will now be useless if I don’t have a system with 10.6.8 (without the security update) available. Is there a workaround, software update, solution to this? I also heard this problem exists in all Mac OS X Lion versions and possibly in the upcoming Mountain Lion, which again puts me in a difficult since I want to buy a new Macbook Pro which will have Lion pre-installed.

The hard drive that I was editing my documentary on has been moved to another Mac Pro and that Mac Pro has the Security Update installed already and I can’t finish my movie. Anything I can do on my end to at least find a quick short term solution, without ignoring a long term one, and fix this situation?

Thanks in advance. Also, is there an update for the recorders that I can install that can prevent this situation from happening again as I need to continue using those cameras with the recorders to shoot other projects? Hope we can find a solution together. Best,

    Juan Lopez

There is a patch for this problem, it originates from here.

The Focus website isn’t very clear and it appears for the FS H200 you have to email them.

The first version I received (for the JVC DR HD100) didn’t work for me because I’m PAL format (it was also sent to me via another source). It’s a droplet that you need to use once only on each file. Fix is almost instant.

    Hope this helps.

Hey Phil, thanks so much for the suggestion. I emailed focus and the sent me the drag and drop droplet you mentioned. Will be testing it in a couple of hours. Does this fix the problem for all future OS releases? I have been reluctant to upgrade to Lion due to this problem. Thanks again

Can never be sure of the future. I started shooting mts files and using Clipwrap 2.

Just tested it and the droplet works. Why mts? Are those compatible with fcp? What does Clipwrap 2 do?
