  • Getting around AGP card for FCP on a macbook

Posted by Kevin O’malley on September 26, 2008 at 8:05 pm

    Hello,
I recently bought myself a macbook. Before buying I asked around if FCP4 would be able to be installed on it without additional upgrades to the hardware, and the feed back that I got was that it would, being that it was such an old version. This copy of FCP4 runs perfect on my old G4. So I installed it and wasn’t asked for any additional hardware in the instillation. But when I went to open it it read “CONFIGURATION ERROR – SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE NEEDS A AGP GRAPHICS CARD”.
I than asked Apple about this card and they said that it should not be needed for this program and they don’t usually come on any macbook. But he also said that there is a way to ‘Hack’ around this problem as he, like myself, has seen full FCP programs running on a macbook, I’ve seen FCP6/Logic2 running on one.
So if some one knows how to get around this apparently small problem it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

The issue isn’t the graphics card. It is that you are trying to run a version of FCP that was intended for PowerPC macs, not Intel. YOu need to get a version of FCP that works on an Intel, like FCP 5.1 (no longer for sale by Apple) or FCP 6.

Before I upgraded to Studio 2, I had FCP 4.5 running on my MacBook with no problems. In fact, it ran better on my MacBook than on my G4. Follow the instructions here: https://www.geekymac.com/?p=243

Only works for the 4.5 update – won’t work with version 4. Install the update first then it will work.
