  • Get blue screen when capture with anything but S-Video or Composite into FCP 4.5

I’m trying to capture clips from a Beta SP tape with component. When my FCP capture/input settings are anything but s-video or composite in, I get a blue screen in my Log and Capture window (same when I actually do capture). Sound is okay though.

    Capture settings are:
Uncompressed 10-bit 422 Video for video input
ProIO 10-bit Component YPBPr SMPTE/N10 29.97Hz using NTSC
    29.97 frames per second
Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 at Best quality.
    24 bits per pixel 720 by 486
Using Multichannel Delta-44 for audio input
    Input: Multichannel Delta-44
    Rate: 48.000 kHz
    Speaker: on
    Volume: 100, Gain: 0

    I’m using a G5 and IoLA.

Has this happened to anyone else and if so, how did you resolve the problem? Has my IoLA box gone bad?

    Try the setting:

AJA Io: YPbPr Betacam 10-bit NTSC US 48kHz

I think the problem may be your SMPTE/N10 choice. I’ve read about this kind of issue in the past on these forums. Your might search on SMPTE/N10 and see what comes up.

    Dual 2.5 G5 4 gigs RAM OS 10.3.8 QT6.5.2
    Cinema 23 Radeon 9800
    FCP4.5 DVDSP 3.0.2
    Huge U-320R 1TB Raid 3 firmware ENG12.BIN
    ATTO UL4D driver 3.20
AJA IO driver 1.3.1 firmware v21-26

Why the multichannel Delta 44? That would be the thing that would alert me to some problems. Perhaps the io is having trouble syncing video with the audio when component is selected? i would try hooking up your audio directly into the io and see if that fixes anything…

Also, reinstalling firmware/drivers has fixed some weirdnesses with my io (full version not la). Maybe you might try and see what that does for you as well. Make sure you back up your custom preset before reinstalling any drivers.

And of course, make sure all of your cables are hooked up correctly, perhaps you have a bad bnc connection and no video is getting to the io at all.
