Yesterday I was pleased to see my Creative Cow Master Series DVD Serious Effects & Compositing by Andrew Kramer had finally arrived. Let me start out by saying that it is well worth the $50 price tag. Andrew does a great job of explaining all his techniques and tricks in detail. It was so easy to follow along and understand everything he was doing. I’m already implementing some of the things I learned in current projects I’m doing here at work and stuff I’m doing on the side. I give it 5 out of 5 cows. Nice job Andrew. I’m telling you, if you do any keying, compositing, color correcting or if you just want a better grasp on After Effects 7…pick up this DVD.

Would 6.5 users get as much bang out of it?

This just arrived in the mail the other day. I’ve done about half of the tutorials. It’s well worth the money. I’m using 6.5 and haven’t had any problems. The AE project files for each tutorial are on the disc, those might be in AE 7 format. Since you are building each project from scratch based on the steps he talks about they are not necessary. AE 7 also stuck some of the effects in different categories than 6.5, so you might have to look in the AE 6.5 equilivant for the effect.
I have to say, I’ve learned a lot from the disc so far….it’s amazing how some pretty simple steps can create a great looking comp.

I have been using it in both 6.5 and 7 since I have different versions for MAC and Windows. I haven’t had any problems applying the tips to anything I’ve done. Like epontius said…you build everything from scratch so if you know where to find everything he’s talking about whether it is filters or presets, then you’re good. Nothing from it is specific to 7 only.
