    Hi,

I recently saw a post talking about this video.

    https://www.nabilphotography.com/likethat.mov

    my question is this…

ok..i’m pretty new at AE so i’ve been reading these post and doing the tutorial so i can try to make a video like this…but after reading and doing the tutorials, i’m still not sure where or how I would start! I think my big problem is that i am not sure what some of the effecs/technics are and how to do em. I recongize the growing effec and i’ve seen the tutorial, I see all the camera movement..although it seems pretty complicated. I know how to key the people out. everything else seem like its out of my reach..is this video a very complicated advance AE production that could only be done by someone with great expertise or is this something that I should be able to figure out? I wish that there was a tutorial that picks one of these videos and goes through each effects…

anway, just a little frustrated trying to figure out how to create some good stuff with AE 🙂

    Here,
https://syndromestudio.com/ the video you talk about is listed under Selected Work/Motion. You might ask them if they have time to give you an overview of what they did. If you get any information share it back here as well.

I know what you mean but there are a lot of ways to get the same result and every new piece has different needs to get what you want out of it (aka one fix does not cure all).

    Hi there.

Don’t give up, it’s natural that you think it’s difficult, but time will show you how easy things are… You just should start with a more simple tutorial, there are some at creative cow, and all over the net.
Take a look at http://www.lynda.com you will find a lot of After effects video tutorials that will teach you from the openning screen of After Effects to the advanced tips… And the first ones are totally for free.

Go on and very soon you will be an expert…

It’s pretty complex, so it’s probably not the kind of project to get a beginner going and at least for the 3D elements you’d need some extra help. ;o) Anyway, a good point to start is to learn how mattes in AE work and how they are used. Most of the paint blotches and streaks are used for this type of transition effect. So imagine for instance you have some white paint and let it drip onto a black canvas. If you filmed this, you could use this as a luma matte. A way to create outline effects was explained in a video tutorial by Aharano Rabinowitz not so long ago. If you look it up here at the COW, you’ll again be a little closer to re-creating the video’s effects. For the growing vines refer to Jayse Hansens tutorial. As for the moves – there isn’t really any camera, I’d say. It’s more or less the keyed protagonists and the other elements being pushed and scaled on screen and timed to give the illusion of camera movement.
