  • General Error Message in Final Cut Pro 5

    Hi,

I just installed final cut studio pro (academic), version 5.0.4 in a 12 inch Powerbook computer with 1.33Ghz processor and 786 RAM. I usually use this same program on a G5 to edit video and save all the materials and projects onto an external LACie drive. When I hooked up the LaCie to the Powerbook and tried to open any of the porjects I get a “General Error” as the program is loading up. Do you have any idea how I can get rid of this message and open the project? I tried trashing the preferences for FCP but that did not work.

I’d appreciate any help anybody can give me.

    Thanks a lot,

    juan

Try copying the project file to the internal HD and disconnecting the external. You’ll have no media, but we need to find where the error is. In the media or the program. If the project opens up, the external drive or the files on the drive have issues. This is where it can get dicey. Now connect the the external and “reconnect media”. It may work it may take FCP down. If it goes down reconnect a few at a time. More than that it becomes a trail and error and error, etc. Good luck

    Hope this helps-
