I’ve done a search regarding this error, but still haven’t been able to fix my problem. I am running FCP 5.1, OSX10.4.8, QT Pro7.1.3. A director has set up a fcp document on his laptop – using the same settings as me, and digitized the footage and done a basic cut. We then copied the media & project onto my computer and tried to open the project so I can edit, but all I get is General Error (41). I’ve tried moving the footage from an external HD to the internal one and changing disks, but it makes no difference – it won’t read the project. Is there any way to fix this or do I have to start again?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you try starting FCP first and open the project from there? Sometimes it doesn’t work when you try to open by clicking the proeject. Is there possibility to save aqnither copy from the director’s desktop? Maybe he can export an edl? You can use the captured footage and import the edl.

Try creating a new project file, and simply importing the clips.

I’ll bet your director had updated his software to 5.1.2. Update yours and try again. Files created by a newer versino cannot be opened by an oder version (pretty common…)
