General editing term.
Hi, i currently work as an assistant editor and am trying to learn whatever i can about actually cutting in the avid (this message board is great and sometimes had posts for EXACT trouble shooting problems i had to call the editor for late at night a few times :/). Any way, I’ve always seen this term but never have found out exactly what it meant. What is a STRING OUT? In some job postings ive seen for assistant editor they say you must know how to do STRING OUTS. What is that??? Thanks!

Good day Daniel,
A stringout when you take the source material and string it out in a timeline so that the editor can come in and look in a sequence to see what material he/she has to work with. Depending on the project, it could be the dailies strungout or a loose version of a script strungout.
