Gamma issues
Hey everybody
I have a issue with the gamma settings on apple machines.
I am running Leapord with FCP 7. I know that with leapord the gamma display standard is 1.8 and when you install snowleapord you get gamma 2.2 as a standard. When working with quicktime files ProRess and H264 (offline aproval) you can under qt preferences setup Enable Final Cut Studio color compatibility when final cut is installed.
What if i callebrated my display to 2.2 and ads that setting under qt pref, what is then correct ?
If i render a proress 4:2:2 HQ and set my gammaprofile to automatic the QT preferences fcp dosent do anything. But when i drag my file into Finalcut pro the file looks brighter than in quicktime ?
Does annybody know annything about these gamma issues ?Thanks

As far as I know, you will be double correcting which would mean that you aren’t correcting. Id’ leave the display at 1.8 and leave the FCP color box checked.

You mean in the QT dialog? I always leave that at none, unless I am switching gamma profiles (601 to 709 or similar). Where are you doing your ProRes rendering? That will help answer the rest of your questions.

Yeah, they are no fun and you can only really judge the quality of your work on a true video monitor hooked up a to video capture/output device.
