November 5, 2007 at 2:14 pmBen,
Are you by any chance rendering in RGB?
I have exported some clips from FC via QT and QT conversion, but not problem when I change the FC Compatibility in QT. The gamma change and the image looks darker. As should be.
Sorry If I can not give you any help.

for the 6 millionth time
your mac displays are 1.8 gamma- PC’s and TV’s are 2.2
To work in Video it is best to change the gamma on your computer display in System Preferences > Displays to correctly display TV gamma

Now the QT player let you fake the gamma of a TV/PC (the same that FC do in the Canvas).
For I don’t know which reason this new seting it dosn’t works in Ben’s computer. I’n mine works perfect.
This is useful to have an idea how your movie will look in other kind of screens.

November 6, 2007 at 12:05 pmHey guys,
the setting works… i check it with the captured clips and the exported ones.
I also calibrated my System on 2.2 Gamma. But something strange happens in Squezze…. the exported clips from FC, which i want to compress, gets darker.
I checked all the settings, everything is fine.
When i compress the same clip in Compressor, the brightness is fine.Well i could say, f*** Squezze and go over Compressor, but Squezze is a hell of a good compression Programm which produces small clips with a very good look.
You guys got any idea, or Tip on that?
Greetz

if you are working with FC, you shouldn’t do that because FC already do it in the Canvas. And now with the new option you can get it too in QT player.
To change the Gamma of your Mac screen is only useful if you are working with AfterEffects, Shake or similar. Those application do not change the Gamma in the viewer because normally they are used with an external monitor with the proper Gamma.

Not true.
the QT player will not compound the gamma settings – and by leaving the gamma at 2.2 you should not be seeing the annoying shifts.
the Native 1.8 gamma is a carryover from the Mac’s origin as a machine for graphic arts and print production – there is NO issue with changing a mac’s gamma to 2.2 for people that only work in video.

November 6, 2007 at 4:37 pmNeider I understand this:
“Gamma handling is different in Shake and Final Cut Pro”
https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93794“Tip: While it is possible to recalibrate Apple displays via the Display Calibrator Assistant in Displays preferences, users should leave the gamma of their monitors to the 1.8 Standard Gamma setting when working in Final Cut Pro”.
