    Greetings:

Can anyone clarify: HD (rec 709) has a 2.2 Gamma curve yes? That in mind, is there any explanation as to why all of the AE exports (1080i Animation) that are imported into my FCP are 1.8? Am I doing something wrong? Should I have everything default to 2.2 or 2.22 instead of source? Or is there something I can ask my AE guys to do to get their exports to be the correct gamma?

And to that end, is it better to have the wider Gamma curve in my timeline for latitude in the blacks?

Thanks all for your help in advance.

    2.22 to be exact.

    2.20 for NTSC

Animation codec is assumed by FCP to be 1.8. You can right click on the clip in your bin -> item properties -> and change the gamma which is down the list.

Or go into User Settings -> editing -> and switch the Imported RGB Video Gamma to 2.22 (since Animation codec is an RGB codec.)
