Hey, guys. I’m going to be doing a shoot on location and will need to hire a couple of people to help out with lighting. It’ll be a group of 20 people, outside, maybe sunny. I know I’ll need something beefy, like these HMIs I’ve been reading about. But I have very limited knowledge about that kind of thing.

I’m kind of new to non-one-man-crew shoots, so I’m still learning the words. But I called the local rental shop to ask about lighting. The guy recommended a Gaffer to help set things up. Not sure what Gaffer means, but the guy was nice enough and is going to come up with an estimate, equipment list, and lighting diagram.

The Gaffer suggested a Key Grip to help hang the lights. No idea what a grip does either.

But I can google all of that stuff. What I need to know is what these guys cost. Can anybody tell me typical rates for these jobs in the Puget Sound/Seattle area?

    Thanks!
