I hope this is the right forum. I am on the brink (WITHIN 10 DAYS) of purchasing an $11,000.00 FCP-G5 system. I keep hearing that the G5 towers will be Mactel towers soon. My only question is what is the benefit of waiting for Mactel’s. On the other hand I don’t want to “buy-in” to old technology. I need some insight.

July 26, 2006 at 9:10 pmAugust 7th is the WWDC conference where Apple will make announcements about any new equipment. The Intel desktop is expected to debut at that event. The only question really remaining is when the unit will be available.
I would not purchase anything until the 7th. We simply have no idea what speeds these new machines will be until they are shown. Until we see them, there’s really no way to know if you’re better off staying with a current Quad or moving to the new machine.

===========While this is true most of the time, we are SO close to such a major change that it’s a little bit different right now.
Other than this situation I would usually agree with you, but we’re at a pretty unique point right now.

July 27, 2006 at 12:49 amDo you have a job starting in 10 days that would justify spending the money right now? If yes then go for it. If not you may want to wait. Someone had mentioned that for a fee you can set it up with apple that if they release the new machines within 90 days of purchase you can upgrade.
