It’s not recommended to setup your Kona to play system sounds as then the volume of your G5 will effect the volume of FCP output. Do you have a mixer inline with your Kona? Run a stereo mini plug (1/8″) to your mixer and run your system sounds through that. Make sure to turn down those levels on capture and output, otherwise your system sounds might end up in your programs.

If you are using Itunes for music playback adjust the volume level within the Itunes application while leaving your external mixer input at unity.

I listen to everything from the output of my G4 routed to my Kona SD which is feeding one of my Mackie mixer inputs.

By leaving the output of the G4 at unity which you confirm by playing back tone within FCP and setting unity levels on the audio board you can playback other sources without messing up your monitoring levels for FCP.

The key is using an external audio mixer like a Mackie as the gear between your computer and audio speakers.
