If you go into your display preferences, turn mirroring off and then in the arrangement area click and drag the menu bar from the MBP screen to the 24″ display. I have been doing this for several months and works great.

I have been trying to figure that out for a couple years……. Thanks a bunch
I knew it had to be “STUPIDLY” simple….
And I can just hear the COW screaming read the frickkin manual…… just no fun that way..

I have the same G5 as you and Shane, mine has a Kona Lh in it and still works great. I have had a 15″ MBP since last Summer, it has a 17″ Sony multi-format 720p monitor hooked up to it, very comfortable support for the G5, use both in tandem a lot.
I also route FW out of the MBP into an old DV deck with component out to a Sony PVM monitor for grading, great little portable system. It also has a 1 TB Firmtec 2 drawer RAID, works great.
Have a wonderful day.
