I have read on here and DVXuser that when you use a G4 it has to rewrap the MXF and it loses some resolution. Is this true? Any truth in this. Currently I am using a G4 dual 1.25 I put in a PCI USB2 slot. Do I need a G5? I am hesitant to upgrade becaues of all the costs, ie, new ram, new monitor adaptor, new drives.
But the question remains..does the G4 reduce the quailty? Any drawbacks?
    Thanks,
    Jason

It’s not to do with processor speed- it has to do with how FCP handles P2. The video data is not being altered in any way. The MXF file header is being removed and replaced with a QuickTime header. Again- you are not losing any quality, resolution, etc from the original data. That said, more power will certainly serve you with more render power and faster editing- but again zero effect on ingest quality.
