  • G4 Dual, how do I get the “optical Port” to work?

….On the Dual G4 Mirror, there is a connection that the Mac rep said is an Optical Out. I can’t find any where in my system preferences to activate that OUT. I want to use the Optical Audio for better Quality. HELP.

Get it to work as WHAT?

What have you connected it to?

This is a standard SP/DIF optical (Toslink) connection.
You can hook it to any audio gear that accepts it.

It looks different then a standard “Optical” connection. The specs online about this box say that you can connect Apple speakers to it. I’d like to connect my Audio process or receiver to this to get better sound out of my box.

Its a “dual-purpose” jack that works either as a standard analog mini (1/8″) stereo jack -OR- an optical digital “Toslink” SP-DIF jack.

There are many audio devices that use these dual-purpose jacks.
I have a couple of Sharp pocket-sized portable MD recorders that have them.

when I talk to the Mac guys, they say it was for Apple speakers only. It seems to me that any other device could be connected.
