We’re ging to be upgrading to Creative Suite CS5 soon and part of our upgrade process is to upgrade RAM in our workstations to 3GB/core, bringing most of our systems up to 24GB RAM. Right now our 8 core Macs are running 8 or 12GB of RAM.

However, we’re not going to be installing the FX4800 card since we wont be using PPro. This isn’t because of money, but because we’re going to have to stay with FCP for editing – this is purely because of logistical issues, a great deal of us here would love to use Red in PPro, but it’s just not possible at this time.

So my question is this, is installing all this extra RAM going to gain us anything for AE rendering? Or is it a waste of time installing this RAM if we’re not going to be using PPro and the FX4800? Finally, would installing the FX4800 do anything to speed up AE rendering?

    Thanks
    Stuart

Well that was quick, thanks, everything answered, or rather confirmed what we already thought. There is a discussion about doing 32GB, nothing decided on that yet

The minimum would be 2 GB per core, but AE loves RAM and now with 64 bit it can use it to the max.
