    Hey guys,

I am on a huge personal project that involves sand, water, grass, trees and plants – I spent almost a grand trying to achive my project in Vue Infinite due to it’s environmental capabilities and it’s vegetation capabilities – i.e. populate a model with a species of vegetation but every instance of it is different in some way, wind effects.

The capabilities of the vegetation placement and different sized instancing was great however the vegetation textures are low quality. By the time I was 3/4 of the way through building my scene, I sat there with my mouth agape, watching the rendering time climb ridiculously…which Vue is known for.

A year worth of work is being tossed and redone in Cinema due to it’s stability and rendering speed. I’m extremely comfortable in C4D and find it’s very easy to move around as well.

My main question is that I need to somehow replace Vue’s capabilities for placing trees/plants of different sizes and configurations as I populate a mesh with them….

    1) Will X-frog do this in Cinema 4D?
    2) Does it have wind capabilities? (This isn’t as important as the first point).
    3) How’s the rendering time for it’s models?
    4) Can I simply use X-frog models in Cinema 4D without buying X-frog if I just want to place the models without adjusting their look?
    5) Do the X-Frog models come with textures that fit them perfectly?
    6) Any other major benefits of X-Frog?
    7) Recommend anything better than/besides X-Frog…Cheaper?

    Any advice/info is greatly appreciated.

https://www.dpit2.de/index.html don’t use XFrog (demoed it once) or DPIT (much) so no opinions…

I don’t thin Xfrog is going to be your answer. It can make good looking trees but they are pretty heavy and animation capabilities are limited.

I’m not that familiar with it, but you might check out Samir’s DPIT Nature Spirit plugin. It seems similar to Xfrog, but with more add-ons. In particular, it has a volumetric instancing capability that allows you to use huge numbers of trees without a huge RAM penalty.
