From Final Cut to DigiBeta and other questions
Hey Guys,
I have a feature I’ve edited that has gotten an overseas distribution. I edited on final cut pro and the client wants a transfer to Digibeta. Nobody in Wilmington seems to have a deck I’m wondering if anyone knows of a good production house on the East Coast that can do the transfer.
When i ship it to the production company what kind of file would they prefer or would they want my Hard Drive with the movie on it?
Also, In Final Cut I’m creating a M&E track which I’ve never done before. Is it as simple as having the dialog on tracks 1 and 2 and having the effects and music on channel 3 and 4?
One more thing, they also want a DA88 full mix and a DA88 with the M&E. Would the production house be able to handle that as well?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Call CineFilm here in Atlanta. They are all set up for this very thing. Ship them your hard drive and they will lay off the show direct from one of their Final Cut Pro Workstations.
Talk to Joe or Jim. They’ll tell you all the details you need to know in terms of format, etc….

Honestly, I would call CineFilm first. We used to use Crawford a long time ago, now we only work with CineFilm.

You need to find out what the overseas distributor wants. Generally you have a Stereo Mix on 1 and 2 with a Split on 3 and 4. But one network I deliver to actually takes a 4 channel split.
Plus you need to know exactly what level they want everything normalled to. Whenever we are sending out to broadcast, our audio always goes to an outside audio post shop where he handles everything. We receive the audio files back as AIFF that we simply insert into the master Sequence. If your budget allows, i would highly recommend this.
