March 31, 2009 at 11:38 pm[Ben Holmes] “What problems do you have with ProRes HQ? Use it constantly. Never heard of any problems… “
Random green artifacts in both captures and renders. Once I found out ProRes and ProRes HQ are essentially the same thing, we stopped using HQ altogether and all has been well.

March 31, 2009 at 11:50 pmI’m a recent MXO2 user, and was wondering the same thing. However, the reason ProRes runs badly on a MBP (incidentally, my 2.33 WILL capture 1080i50 ProRes HQ using the MXO2…) is that Apple achieved the great compression using a processor-intensive codec. Love you think they could improve on that…
Of course, you could use the IOHD (if it wasn’t the size/weight of several bricks!)

March 31, 2009 at 11:58 pmhey you want a rumor – here is a rumor that is based on nothing.
I was at LAFCPUG, and saw the new iMovie, and it has no Edit to Tape/Print to Tape /anything to tape function. Just web.So does this mean that FCP 7 won’t output to a VTR ?

Yeah so will mine but after about 12 mins it spits the dummy… I use ProresHQ on my MBP to a FW800 drive when doing batch captures off my HDCAM deck knowing they are small (ish) grabs. I then take the drive into the MacPro and edit away… I just wish I had a second expresscard slot on my MBP. Do you think that will come out as a FCP upgrade?

April 1, 2009 at 12:21 amInteresting info on the MXO2 – not tried a longer capture – I was thinking I’d use DVCProHD if i had to do a portable HD job…
Not sure why everyone (cough) gets so sniffy about rumours here. Sure, they’re often wrong, but it’s fun to speculate. If you don’t want to join in, just ignore the thread, and get on with your day…

April 1, 2009 at 12:37 amIf you go over to the Adobe forums you will see Premiere CS4 is about to release a major dot version with plenty of fixes. That usually happens about the same time Apple do some proapps updates.
Its the competition between software rivals that keeps us reaping the benefits and any mention of hope with buggy software is all I am looking for. Rumours are rumours but it sure beats the deathly silence we always get from these major software companies.

April 1, 2009 at 12:37 amWhat?! Wow – that’s the spirit Bob! Bit more out there than a point upgrade to Color, but still…
Come on beta testers, bust outta that NDA! Someone already squealed!

Ben, there’s literally about 10 beta testers for Apple at this time who are outside of the company. If someone really did squeal, they know exactly who it is. Breaking an Apple NDA is not something you really want to do if you’re in the test team.

April 1, 2009 at 3:04 pm[Ben Holmes] “Lossy video compression? Like the sound of an updated ProRes,”
Yeah, it’s lossy, not lossless. But it does hold up pretty well for being lossy.
I would imagine that ProRes 422 is going to get a few more numbers added to it, but that’s just a very wild guess.
Oh, and Yeah, Apple will release FCS6 with frickin’ laser beams.
