Fresh FCP X / Lion install on partitioned drive?
I’m about to follow the advice of David Roth Weiss of partitioning a fresh drive in my MacPro and installing FCP X and Lion on it to see if it cures the dreadful instability I’ve encountered running FCP X on my main drive.
(yes, together with FCP 7 and everything else in the kitchen sink)
What could be a joy is a real pain.
I am through putting projects but with great difficulty.
I’ve got a 2009 2.8Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with a ATI Radeon HD 5770 card and 14 GBs of memory.
From what I’ve read this should be easily up to the task of running FCP X.
However I could be wrong because the instability I’ve encountered is really extreme and involves constant spinning balls, crashes, force quits, trashing preferences and computer re boots.
So the only way for me to find out what’s at the root of my problems is to do this fresh install.
I don’t want Lion on my core drive as quite a few bits of essential software have not caught up with Lion yet.
Presumably I will have to clone my existing OS X Snow Leopard operating system onto one of the partitions in order to upgrade it to Lion?
And also I will presumably also need to install all my essential peripheral software such as Compressor and Motion
Has anybody else done this fresh install and how did it affect performance?
If so I would welcome your feedback prior to me carrying out this activity.
Also am I the only person to encounter severe operational problems?
Have people noticed improvements in operating FCP X under Lion?
Thanks
