  • Freeze frame color correction randomly stays or goes

I have learned in the past that when you create a freeze frame, it does not retain any color correction that was done on the sequence, and you have to copy and paste attributes from the source material to the freeze frame to get the freeze frame to match. Right, everybody knows that.

BUT, what IS new to me, is that now when I make a freeze frame, it MAY or MAY NOT retain the source clip’s color correction. The filter never copies over, but the actual colors will sometimes. As far as I can tell it’s completely random, and I never know when it will match, or when I need to copy and paste attributes. If I copy the color correction filter onto a freeze frame that already matches it just doubles the effect, making a non-matching freeze frame, of course.

This isn’t necessarily the end of the world, but I’m uneasy that these freeze frames that don’t need a filter may not retain their color, and will revert to the condition of the other freeze frames sometime before the project’s finished.

    Any thoughts?

Did you FULLY RENDER the timeline?

No, probably not. I’ll have to try it again in such a situation and get back… *Sigh* Fully render, fully render, I thought Final Cut was supposed to be masterful at previewing material.

Ok, I just checked, and yes, it happens exactly the same when fully rendered. Some projects require no copying and pasting of attributes, in some projects copying and pasting doubles the effect. Rendered or unrendered.

    Any thoughts?

    [Nick Ryan] “Any thoughts?”

Time to Trash the FCP Preferences.

    Use “FCP Rescue.”

Hmmm, trashed prefs and the problem still exists…

Well, on second thought, let me put it this way. After trashing the prefs, if I make a new freeze frame it no longer carries the cc info over – I have to copy and paste attributes. However, the old freeze frames that were carrying the cc info are still carrying it. So perhaps trashing the prefs fixed it after all.

    Yes.

THIS is the way it is SUPPOSED to work.

So, I hope the Trash-Prefs did solve the isssue.
