  • Freeze and restart video?

Posted by Dionne Knapp on September 17, 2007 at 3:42 pm

    I have Avid Media composer.

How do I “freeze” action in video?

I want to have the video playing then freeze it at a specific point.

Then I’ll set that frame as a background for a green screen.
someone walks in and says something about the action then leaves at which point the video continues playing.

Anyone know how to do this?

    HI
    1) lay your shot on the timeline
    2) roll to the point where you want it to freeze
    3) match frame that frame into the player window
    4) select freeze from the menu (cant remember whoch, probably edit menu) and select how long
    5) create the freeze and it should load up
    6) Insert edit that freeze at the freeze point for the desired length
    7) If trimming this duration, select only the freeze side in trim to maintain the match frame out point
    8) do your cromakey layer etc

you can also use time warp and bring it to a freeze gradually.
Just apply time warp, open effect controls, bring up your ramp display, add a keyframe and drag yer ramp down to 0. You can alt drag that keyframe left and right to have it freeze at the perfect frame.
