Hi, is there any free software for creating edl file, for example, journalist is logging his own video file (let’s say, it’s interview), mark in point and out point, and soft makes edl. Then I put this edl to FCP and have few video files in bin with interview. It’s quite hard to explain what I want, but I hope, you understand. The whole idea is that journalists could log video data from CF cards or hard drive and later could give edl for editor. If there is no free software, maybe I could find cheap alternative. Thank’s for your patience.

Thanks, but this is not what I want. I know how to work with excel and make batch file, but it works, when you are logging tapes. My point is, that journalists could log from CF cards or hard drives.

    [Dovydas Vilkelis] “Is it matter?”
Apart that FC doesn’t like AVI files, it doesnt matter too much.
Why don’t you teach your journalists to use QT Pro to make a Reference movie?
Better and faster than marking or typing TC and can be open by any application that works with QT.

What do you mean “make reference movie”?

When you open a movie with QT Player (having QT Pro) you can edit. You can select clips from your movie and you can copy paste in a new window making a new movie. But you can save this new movie as a “Reference movie”.
This movie have no media. Its reference to the media of the original movie.
When you open this movie you are really reading the footage of the original movie. Off course you need the original media to read the Ref Movie.
The file is only few Kbs of memory because contains no media. And FC is able to open it and work the same than with any other movie. Off course FC need the original media too.
So in a laptop, you open your movie with QT Player, you mark IN (I) and OUT (O) and Copy. Open a new empty QT window (Comm-N) and paste. In the end you have a Reference movie. You give the editor that Ref Movie and the media and he will import it to FC and edit as any other clip. A clip with all the selected shot, audio and video in the original format.

    It’s a good idea, I didn’t think about it. Thank’s, Rafael 😉
