This is an effect that enables you to isolate a particular color and adjust the hue, saturation and value (luma). (Those of you who are familiar with Apple’s Color app will find this similar to using the hue/saturation/value adjustment secondary.)

    3782_tkyselectivecolorinstaller.zip

This is useful, for example, to add extra saturation to a color you want to emphasize or conversely tone down a color that’s a bit too strong; or you could use it to completely change the color of an object; or make something black and white; or any number of varied grading challenges.

Of course, this is perfectly achievable using the keyer in the FCPX Color Board, but the advantages of this effect that you don’t get with the Color Board are that a) you can view the key directly (as a black & white/grayscale image) and b) you can adjust the blur of the key, which is an especially important consideration for this kind of work.

The installer uses Spherico’s freeware Motion Template Tool app, which I heartily recommend you start using for Motion Template installation. Download it if you don’t already have it. MTT installs effects in the correct folders, creating them if need be. You don’t even need to have Motion 5 installed.

    Simon,

Much appreciated as always. I just read a Ken Stone article on creating Favorites folders for effects, titles, etc. with the “Motion Templates” folder, so I will be able to keep better track of some of the excellent plug-ins you and others have shared. I’ve greedily downloaded everything you’ve come up with.

    Thanks again,
    Dave

    Cool!

Can I suggest an ‘Invert Mask’ option?

[Alex Gollner] “Can I suggest an ‘Invert Mask’ option?”

Hi Alex. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there is already an Invert Mask option – I just forgot to mention it in the write-up!

I saw the invert.key control, I thought a way of inverting the mask defined by the four OSCs would be handy.
