I thought this was pretty cool, so I thought I would share it.

I downloaded the cartoonr plug in, and gave it a whirl. I thought that it would be a cheesy looking plug in with minimal controls. I was pleasantly suprised. The plugin downloaded easily and installed quickly with a minimum of fuss. I loaded some shots from a comercial I produced and played around with the settings. I was pleasently suprised with the qulity I was able to get. It appeared to me almost as good an effect as those used in some national commercials I have seen recently.

In the past with other plugins I have tried, I found it difficult to get smooth looking images. With this plugin it was extremely simple, within five minutes I had a great looking effect. The effect was a little slow to render on my computer, but the truth is everything takes forever to render on my computer. I suspect I have a setting issue, so I don’t know that it was the plug in.

My only complaint is the dial shaped controls where difficult to use. I feel that a slider graphic would be more appropriate. To work the dials, you have to click on the dial then slide the mouse up and down to adjust the effect, rotating the mouse does not work.

Over all I felt it was extremely high quality, and it certainly left me with a good impression of Newbluefx. If I need a certain effect, I will certainly consider Newbluefx.

    Price: Free
usability: Easy once you get used to the dial interface
    Intergration: exceptional
rendering: Slow (Comparible to other effects on my system
    Usefulness: Rare/special circumstance effect
Overall: Exceptional quality in a free product.

    Tony,

    Thanks for your kind words.

W/r to your concern about the dial control, there is an option to drag the mouse in an arc. To select it, open the Info dialog and you will find a check box to set the knob behavior.

    Thanks,
