  • ‘Framing’ old news reel footage, any ideas?

Posted by James Bayliss-smith on November 30, 2010 at 4:25 am

Hi there I have some old archive footage in SD 4:3 footage that I want to use in an HDV project. I am considering ‘framing’ the footage. So that I don’t have to zoom the footage to fit in a 16:9 frame I’m considering framing it like in the old silent movies with a curved 4:30 frame. Any ideas on how to achieve this (I’m guessing create a template in photoshop), or how to use SD 4:3 Archive in an 16:9 HDV project?

    Thanks and all the best

You could also get creative with the framing by placing the footage inside a stock image of a 50’s TV set, or doing a red velvet movie-house curtain reveal, leaving the curtains on the sides to conceal the pillar boxes (and maybe even place some MST3000-like silhouettes of people in front)

    Hi James,
If you still have LiveType around, inside there are some good masks available.

And you can even get this “opening curtains with moving silhouettes” from a template on DVDSTP.
