  • framing lines for shooting 2.39 on a 7D?

Posted by Paul Carlin on April 26, 2014 at 1:55 am

In the ideal world I would like the Canon 7D to have the option to display frame lines for shooting 1.85 and 2.39 center extracted images. Perhaps under the GRID options menu? (A 1/3 weighted 2.39 common top would be nice too!

Does anyone have a good suggestions on how to do this? Has someone created a firmware hack that adds this functionality? Am I stuck with scotch tape on my camera display as the only solution?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Masking (or scotch) tape is still the most efficient method. You may check and see where Magic Lantern is with hacking the 7D. I know they made some progress recently for RAW recording on the 7D (but remember, that ML is unsupported firmware, and could potentially brick your camera – user beware!).

    I answered my own question:

Magic Lantern allows for custom crop marks. For example,
