Frame / Sample Rate Mismatch in FCP ?
This problem has come up a few times recently.
A quicktime file plays back properly in quicktime or vlc.When imported into FCP it retains the same length, and the audio plays back fine, but the video seems to be slowed down (and is therefore cut off early in order to fit the original length of the clip). This also creates an audio/video sync problem.
This has happened with clips using a variety of codecs (DV, Uncompressed, Apple Pro Res) and export methods, but doesn’t happen to all clips. A simple transcode to a new format does not fix the problem.
I am thinking that FCP must be misinterpreting the frame or sample rates of these files, though I’ve tried transcoding to different sample rates without success.
We are using FCP 6.0.6 on a MacPro (2) Core2 2.66GHz 4GB RAM running OSX 10.5.8

For what it’s worth… converting files to DV Stream fixes the problem, though this is not acceptable for any project in which I’m working at higher than DV quality.

Why not list the specifics about your frames and sample rates, there is no such thing as to much spec info.

The most recent time involves a DVD ripped using Cinematize to DV-NTSC 29.97 with a sample rate of 48k.
I tried converting this to 44.1k, but this didn’t change anything.
Original file from Cinematize plays back fine in Quicktime, but when imported into FCP the previously stated problem occurs.
Exporting out a DV Stream file from Quicktime Pro solves the problem regardless of sample rate (I have tried 32k, 44.1k, and 48k).
