Frame Hold cuts off a nearby transition. Any way to fix this?

Seems to me that when you tried to fix one problem with the transition, it creates another problem as well right? Have you tried the “Snap To” function in Premiere Pro?

Here are some of the steps I found to adjust the “Snap To” function:

1.) Click on the “Timeline” panel in Adobe Premiere Pro.

2.) Click on the “Snap to” button which is located at the top right corner of the “Timeline” panel.

3.) Choose one of the following options from the “Snap to Grid” dropdown menu:

• Snap to nearest bar: this option will align the selection to the nearest bar line or frame.
• Snap to playhead: this option will align the selection to the playhead location.
• Snap to marker: this option will align the selection to the nearest marker or the selected marker.
• Custom Snap Increment: this option will align the selection to a custom increment.

Once you chose the desired option, the selection will snap to the nearest snap option. Try these steps to see if it resolves your issue. If not, I suggest you contact the Adobe Support for further help on this.

I like Hector’s version better.

But a “dirty fix” that may work for you is to Speed ramp the clip that is causing trouble.
(Although it will be more of a vertical climb, than a ramp 😀)

hi hector,

i can’t find any “Snap To” function in the top right corner of the Timeline panel

but if you’re talking about the “Snap in Timeline” toggle in the top left corner of the panel, i don’t really understand how that can fix my problem. i’m not having an issue with snapping. my issue is that a clip is too short for a transition to be the length i need it to be.

ooh, that’s a great idea. so basically if i speedramp the clip to 1%, it effectively creates a hold frame without an edit point? i think that might actually do the trick.

(i had actually come up with another solution, which was to use a Track Matte along with an Adjustment Layer that Wipes between a black fill and a white fill. but it’s a stupid and overly complicated solution that requires multiple tracks lmao. i think your solution is far cleaner and seems like the way to go!)

You could always nest the clip, then in the nest add the frame hold and extend.

(not that I like nesting much)

ah, yeah, i was hoping to avoid nesting. it’s hard for my brain to keep track of everything when it’s not all on the same timeline.

i ended up using track matte and multiple layers, which isn’t great, since it turns it into more of a composition than a timeline… but eh, what can ya do lol
