  • Frame Flex Issues with spanning 4K clips.

I’ve found a bug that i’ve been able to repeat and was wondering if anyone has had the same issue or found a work around.

We’re using a single Sony FS7 shooting 4k for master interview footage, we punch in using FrameFlex to create a CU B angle.

When I’m transcoding a spanned 4k clip with frame flex applied, at the marker that indicates the span from one clip to the next, the frame flex unapplies itself. The clip will be punched in, and at the span it punches itself back out to the entire wideshot. This isn’t a one time thing, it repeats itself anytime that i’m transcoding a spanned 4k clip. We’ve tried numerous things to see if it would fix the issue:
    -Disabling LUTs on the clips
    -Foreground and background transcodes
-We encountered the issue in 8.4, we tried upgrading to 8.5 but had no luck

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I have not, but would not be surprised that this could be a potential bug. I will on a R3D spanned file as I do not have any FS7 type files to test with.

If on a later version, a workaorund may be to transcode to source resolution on the source clip first to DNxHR, then FrameFlex from that.
