I am getting dropped frame readings during Premiere capture. I am capturing DVCAM from a Sony DSR-25 deck. I am capturing to a dedicated scratch disk on a top of the line Dell (their most expensive multimedia sations), with fast hard drive (over 72), purshased two months ago. It has 3 gigs of RAM. When I capture the same tape with the same firewire cable to my MAC G5, I am not dropping frames.

Can anyone give me any clues to where to look in my configuration to figure out why frames are being dropped? Also, does anyone know, if I do drop frames, will this create time code wrinkles? I would imagine that time code is being captured from the tape so that if a frame is dropped, this means a frame of time code will be dropped, but for all the frames that are captured the time code will still reflect the time code on the tape. If I use the caputure tape with a few dropped frames — I am assuming that, for this reason, my timecode on my digitized file will not go out of sync with my time code on my tape. Is this correct?

It really depends on how much your FPS is dropping, 1-3 and maybe 4 shouldn’t make much difference. My RAM is a little weak and I’ve tried doing what you are doing,my FPS drops by 3 sometimes when I’m recording. Doesn’t seem to have much effect on the time code or the over-all look of the video.

What codec are you using ? eg. DV or uncompressed AVI ?

Also make sure your drivers of the Motherboard is up to date.
