  • Frame appearance result when exporting to DVD from Premiere Pro

Posted by Raymond Tarry on July 23, 2006 at 5:03 pm

Hello, I generally shoot DV footage with the Panasonic DVX100A using the Widescreen setting. This gives me a frame that has a black bar all the way across the top and bottom of the frame. (looks like wide screen, although not true 16.9)
When I capture into Premiere Pro, the window changes to a black border around the entire window, although the frame size stays the same.
I would like to end up with the original widescreen look when I export to DVD(a black bar all the way across the top and bottom of the frame), but it always turns out a black border on four sides.
    Any suggestions? Thanks Raymond

Hello Aanarav. I think I figured it out.
I just compared two Project Settings – one with General Display Format reading “24fps timecode” and another with “30fps Non Drop Frame Timecode”
The “30fps Non Drop Frame Timecode” gave me the same top and bottom bars as when I shot it and the “24fps timecode” gave me the black box around it. I tried importing and pasting clips from one project to another and they changed everytime.
I’m not sure how I ended up with a 24fps display, but importing into the 30fps timeline changed it.

    – One more thing, when I burned a DVD I still ended up with a black box around it when I viewed it on my TV. Is that because of the 720×480 res?
    Thanks Raymond

    The project settings say:
    DV Playback
    23.976 frames/sec
    General
    720 x 480
