    hi Darren –

    I’m a beginner so I pray I don’t confuse you or make it worse but… you’re trying to shatter a polygon object right? If so try choosing Disconnect first – and then don’t re-group. Once you do that it should work…

    I know I made it happen that way with an extruded text object awhile back – make editable, used the knife to cut it into pieces, chose all, disconnect – and had a sphere fly down and smash it to bits. Very cool effect when you get it right 🙂

    Please post back if/when you find the solution – it’ll help me as well.

    Thanks! and good luck with it!

    thanks for the info. i’l let you know if it works.

    off the record, i’m surprised none of the intermediate or advance people haven’t written anything, (*aHEM*, hint-hint).

    i need to know STEP-by-step how to fracture an object.

    the included link is only showing what i was trying to do in the past, which didn’t work.

    the link is only there to show people the method i as doing previously. i need step-by-step instructions on how to fracture an object.

    othe rplaces tell me i ahve to make the ball that fractures the object to be a clone, other tell me to use a rigid body tag, some tell me to just animate a ball. nobody, is giving me correct full steps on how to fracture an object.

    do you mean the same sort of thing as in the Shattering and Floating thread down the page? (at least the shattering part) https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/19/871774

    Okay, here it is:

    1. select all of the polygons in your object;

    2. in the functions menu, select “disconnect” and uncheck the preserve groups button;

    3. create a fracture object and make your object it’s child;

    4. set the fracture object’s mode to “explode segments”;

    5. depending on what version of Cinema you’re using (*ahem*),

    * R11.5: give your fracture object a mograph>rigid body tag and in the collision tab, set individual elements to “all”.

    * R12: same thing but use a Dynamics>Dynamics Body tag.

    Now your object will shatter it hits another dynamic object.
