I’m buying a G-DRIVE Q (from G-technology). Just wondering if it needs some sort of fancy AVID formatting or if I should just format it noramlly at NTFS.

I’m new to AVID, and the drive is for AVID courses i’m taking very soon. Not sure exactly what kind of AVID i’ll be using. Saw their classroom, it’s Dell computers with i think the guy said AVID Meridans (grey rectangular box, 6 lights on front with power switch).

I think the drive arrives formatted for Macs (Mac Journalled formatting or something). How do I format it for PC AVID? Any special formatting settings? Can somebody post a walkthrough? Thanks.

You want to format the drive in XP Pro’s “Disk Management” utility. Just do a normal format as NTFS, give it a drive letter, and you’re good to go. Note that if you try to use an NTFS drive on an OS-X Mac, you will be able to read from but not write to it.
