  • Format problem from Vegas Movie Studio 9 to DVD Architect

    Greetings,
Just finished editing a scene from a 16mm film I am remastering in hi def for widescreen release. I reformated the the original Motion JPEG-A to 16:9 in Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum. When I burnt a test DVD the image looked fine on my 1920 x 1080 monitor. However after burning a DVD in DVD Architect the image was vertically stretched and filled a standard 4:3 TV screen. I was expecting to see a 16:9 image letterboxed on my standard 4:3 TV but it did not turn out that way.
So….how can I get my editied material to retain the same format (16:9) on a standard defintion (4:3) TV and appear letterboxed?

What did you burn this image with? Later you said:

However after burning a DVD in DVD Architect the image was vertically stretched and filled a standard 4:3 TV screen.

Which implies that you did not burn the first one with DVD Architect. If the DVD plays fine on your PC I assume that your DVD player isn’t set up correctly for a 4:3 TV. Make sure the DVD player is not set up for 16:9 if the TV is 4:3 otherwise you will get a stretched image as you describe.

    John,
I did burn only one DVD using DVD Architect.
However, my stand alone DVD player has no option for setting it up for 16:9.
As I mentioned before, the DVD plays in the 16:9 format on my internal DVD burner/player with no stretching of the image. I will therefore try a different stand alone DVD player and report the results. Thanks for your help.

    Hi Lee, hi other members,

I experience a similar problem. My footage was shot in 16:9, I exported it from Vegas as mpeg2, DVD architect PAL widescreen template, the project properties in DVDA are set to 16:9 and when I pop it into the DVD player, the footage is getting stretched and fills out the complete 4:3 TV screen.

When I play the DVD in the computer, the aspect ratio is recognised correctly (the monitor is 4:3 and I use video LAN as player).

This is the first DVD I am trying to author. If anybody has a link to a comprehensive step by step guide or can walk me through this that would be fantastic. My google search got me here 🙂

    Thank you everybody in advance!

    Regards,

    Robin
