    Hi everyone
I have one question…maybe a stupid question but like Alan Shisko said “Go to CrativeCow forum and ask stupid questions...”…well here I am.I’m trying to folow one tutorial-using animated displacement maps in FreeForm AE.ANd here is my problem…I don’t understand this….

If you glance back at the Comp Winodw you will notice that not much has happenned… Why? You may ask. At this point the sequence the lumincane values drawn from ”2_Mask + Soild Comp” are all dark. Hence the image adheres to the surface of the ”FreeFormed”” layer. Scrub through the animation or create a RAM preview to see the results before we move on.
My problem is…Hence the image adheres to the surface of the ”FreeFormed”” layer

I guess it a stupid question but I still can’t solve this problem and I spent the whole day trying to draw that mask.
    Thank you!!!

Well, without doing the tutorial (sorry — busy right now), I can assume that he means that because the luminance values are dark, that the displacement of the layer will be low or nothing, and the layer will not displace (rise) much, if at all.

    Does that help?

Do you know how displacement works in 3D apps or Freeform?

Basically, you use an image map to tell the app how to raise or lower the layer. Imagine laying the image map over the layer: where the image is white, the layer rises. Where it is dark, the layer falls or doesn’t rise.

If the map is white letters on a black background, it will displace the layer so the letter areas are raised over the rest of it.

    Does that make sense?

    YES,that kind of explanation I need…now I understand…
    thank you very much…!!!
