  • Force M100 to strip Alpha on import?

Posted by Jaeson Koszarsky on July 13, 2011 at 6:20 pm

Occasionally I import an MOV file that M100 says has an alpha channel, and M100 wants to change the codec to M100 HD. I don’t need the alpha and would rather not switch to the HD codec. Is there a way to force Media100 to stick to the original codec and just ignore or strip the alpha channel? Thanks.

    No, currently not.

You can use ProRes444 as an alternate codec that supports alpha.

Media100 doesn’t give the option to select an alternative codec when importing. I can reprocess the file before the import with another app or inside the M100 after the import, it’s just a few extra steps.

True, but if you select ProRes444 before the import, that choice will be honored. It’s only because you have a non-alpha codec selected that we force the change.
